Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Sunday, July 31: At 2:42 am a deputy was dispatched to S. 11th St in Grand Junction for the report of a suspicious person walking in the area. The deputy located and detained the male subject in question and subsequently arrested Marshall Lee McCullough, 22, of Florida on an outstanding warrant from another state. He was also charged by the deputy for trespassing, interference with official acts and attempted burglary- third degree*. At 5:42 pm a deputy assisted JPD officers with a call and the arrest of a male subject in the 300 block of W. Reed St in Jefferson.
Saturday, July 30: At 1:21 pm a deputy was advised of an erratic and careless driver that was eastbound on Highway 30 from Scranton. The vehicle was stopped by a JPD officer and the deputy. The driver was evaluated and issued citations for driving while suspended and careless driving. At 2:40 pm a deputy witnessed a single vehicle accident on Highway 4 near County Road P-33 (190th St) north of Jefferson while attempting to make a traffic stop on said vehicle for speeding. Jodi Lyn Mohr, 37, of Gowrie was southbound when the deputy attempted to pull her over. As Mohr attempted to pull off the roadway and stop, her 2005 Chevrolet Equinox LS slid on the shoulder gravel and rolled onto its top in the ditch. Mohr and a passenger were transported to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services with unknown minor injuries. The Jefferson fire department also was dispatched and assisted with the accident.
Friday, July 29: At 4:23 pm a deputy assisted JPD officers with a call in the 300 block of Reed St in Jefferson.
Thursday, July 28: At 7:05 am a deputy investigate a burglary to a vehicle in the 600 block of Jay Street in Churdan. At 7:30 am a deputy investigated a complaint of stolen property and operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent in the 300 block of W. Main St in Grand Junction. At 9:36 am, a deputy investigated theft of approximately 60 tons of rock in the 1000 block of 150th St near Churdan. At 11:57 am a deputy investigated a phone scam that was received in Rippey. At 2:56 pm a deputy investigated a fraud case in the 400 block of N. Olive St in Jefferson.

Tuesday, July 26: At 9:55 pm a deputy investigated an anhydrous leak near Cooper.
Monday, July 25: At 3:13 am Greene County dispatchers were advised by the Webster County sheriff’s office of a single vehicle roll-over accident that occurred on County Road P-33 (R Ave) in Dawson Township, just into Greene County. Deputies from Webster County and Gowrie fire and rescue were already on scene upon the Greene County deputy’s arrival. A 2002 Dodge Dakota which is owned by Robert Ray Busick, 38, of Fort Dodge, was located with no driver present at the scene. The accident is under investigation by the Greene County sheriff’s office. At 3:31 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of Sand St in Churdan to investigate the report of illegal burning. The home owner was advised of the city ordnance about burning improper materials. At 3:35 pm a deputy spoke with a Churdan resident about a harassment concern and the procedure to put a protective order in place. At 3:40 pm a deputy spoke with a resident in the 1100 block of County Road E-57 (290th St) in Greenbrier Township about his receiving an IRS phone scam. At 4:01 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of 195th St in Kendrick Township to investigate a burglary and theft of personal property from a residential garage.
Sunday, July 24: At 1:37 am a deputy was dispatched for a minor car-deer accident on Highway 144 near W Ave at Rippey. No injuries were reported and the vehicle was drivable with only minimal damage. 8:29 am, a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of Elizabeth S in Grand Junction to investigate the theft of personal property from a work pickup truck after a rock was thrown through the window to gain access. At 5:39 pm a deputy spoke with a resident in the 200 block of N. 15th St in Grand Junction about a harassment concern and a possible no-contact order being pursued.
Saturday, July 23: At 2:51 am a deputy was dispatched to the Greene County Medical Center emergency room to investigate a possible sexual assault.
Friday, July 22: At 8:26 am a deputy was dispatched to the Lions Club Park in Churdan to investigate criminal mischief to the windows in the railroad caboose at the park. At 11:09 am a deputy, Grand Junction fire and rescue and Greene County EMS were all dispatched for a single vehicle roll-over accident south of Grand Junction on Highway 144. Joel Raymond Cody, 61, of Grand Junction was southbound driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup pulling a trailer and lawn mower. The trailer and mower began to sway, causing Cody to lose control. The truck entered the ditch and rolled onto its top, trapping him for a short time. Cody reported that he was not injured and refused to be transported but was evaluated at the scene by Grand Junction rescue. The pickup and trailer were reported to be a total loss.
Thursday, July 21: At 12:17 pm a deputy, Churdan rescue and Greene County EMS were all dispatched for a reported two vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Head and School Streets in Churdan. Colleen Kay Mackey, 70, of Churdan was westbound on School St when she failed to yield for a southbound vehicle being driven by Grace Marie Cozad, 51, of Jefferson. The Cozad vehicle struck the Mackey vehicle at the intersection. Both drivers were transported to the Greene County Medical Center for further medical treatment with non-life threatening injuries. The Mackey vehicle sustained an estimated $10,000 in damages and Mackey was cited for failure to obey a yield sign. The Cozad vehicle sustained an estimated $4,500 in damages and Cozad was cited for driving while license under suspension and failure to provide proof of security against financial liability. At 6:37 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Hager St in Grand Junction for criminal mischief to a vehicle.
Wednesday, July 20: At 9:41 am a deputy was advised of the theft of two fire extinguishers from construction equipment in Scranton. At 6:54 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of W. Main St in Grand Junction to discuss a previous assault that occurred several years ago.
Tuesday, July 19: At 1:18 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of School St in Churdan to check the safety of several small children playing in the rain water along the roadway. At 4:28 pm Greene County dispatchers were advised of an electrical power line that was down in the 1500 block of 252nd St in Grant Township. Midland Power Cooperative was advised and responded to the scene. At 5:44 pm a deputy investigated a harassment concern in the 400 block of South 15th St in Grand Junction.
Monday, July 18: At 8:42 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1400 block of County Road P-14 (J Ave) in Jackson Township to investigate the theft of a traffic cone from a construction site. The vehicle in question was located and two juvenile females admitted to removing the orange cone.
Sunday, July 17: At 10:20 am a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a call at the St Joseph Catholic Church parking lot in Jefferson. At 6:16 pm, a deputy and Grand Junction rescue were dispatched to 8th St and Sunset Drive in Grand Junction for a single vehicle accident. Todd Anthony Matthews, 44, of Ogden lost control of his 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe and drove off the roadway, striking a tree. Matthews was transported to the Greene County Medical Center for further evaluation with what appeared to be not life threatening injuries. His vehicle was estimated to be a total loss. At 8:37 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of Irving St in Scranton for a dog running at large and being aggressive towards others. At 11:56 pm a deputy was dispatched for what was first reported to be a burglary in progress in Grand Junction. It was soon determined that the intruder was in fact a relative and was to be at that location.
Saturday, July 16: At 3:49 am a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of Madison S in Scranton for a reckless driving concern. At 7:05 am a deputy advised Greene County dispatchers of a stop sign that was knocked down at the intersection of Elizabeth and 12th Streets in Grand Junction. At 10:11 am a deputy was advised of criminal mischief at a building site in the 1200 block of C Ave in Kendrick Township. At 10:45 am Greene County dispatchers assisted in getting medical personnel dispatched for a vehicle that was parked along the roadway on Highway 175 east of Farnhamville. The e-911 call was received at Greene County and then transferred to Calhoun County. At 12:37 pm a deputy drove to Polk County to transport Somaly Jones, 48, back to Greene County on an outstanding trespassing warrant*. At 2:29 pm a deputy drove to the Perry police department to take custody of Jesse Summerfield, 33, of Jefferson on an arrest warrant for a violation of probation*. At 6:09 pm a deputy was dispatched to County Road E-33 (Eaton Ave) and 195th St in Kendrick Township for a pickup truck the was vandalized and personal property taken from the truck. An investigation was initiated at that time.
Friday, July 15: At 5:52 am a deputy was advised of a semi-tractor tanker truck leaking some type of liquid from the tanker as it was westbound on Highway 30 from Jefferson. At 8:53 am a deputy was advised by a Jefferson resident of criminal mischief to her vehicle while the car was parked in Scranton. At 11:23 am a deputy was advised of several vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Highway 30 near Grand Junction. The described vehicles were not located at that time. At 2:27 pm a deputy was out of position and unable to locate a reported westbound erratic driver on Highway 30 near Jefferson. At 10:26 pm a deputy investigated a harassment concern in the 2300 block of J Ave in Greenbrier Township.
Thursday, July 14: At 3:21 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Jordan Ave (Jackson Township) boat ramp, on the Raccoon River for a reported ATV being driven on the ramp. The ATV was located and the driver and passenger were identified and warned about riding on the roadway. At 5:23 pm the chief deputy sheriff was dispatched for a minor two vehicle accident that occurred in the 800 block of 205th St in Bristol Township. Chad Michael Mobley, 51, of Albert City was westbound on his 1973 Harley Davidson motorcycle when an eastbound vehicle being driven by Tina Ann Lair-Van Meter, 17, of Coon Rapids drove left of center and struck the Mobley motorcycle. There were no injuries reported and only minor damage to each vehicle reported. At 11:43 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of Grant St in Scranton for an abandoned e-911 call that mapped to that location. No one was located at the residence upon the deputy’s arrival.
Wednesday, July 13: At 7:54 am a deputy was advised by a resident in the 600 block of 12th Street S in Grand Junction of the theft of tools from his pickup. At 3:52 pm a deputy asked to check the report of some type of material being burned too close to a home in the 300 block of Howard St in Rippey. At 3:58 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Seven Hills Park in Jackson Township to investigate criminal mischief and vandalism around the shelter house area. At 7:45 pm a deputy was asked to check the welfare of several dogs in the 500 block of S. Wise St in Paton.
Tuesday, July 12: At 10:54 am a deputy was advised of the theft of personal property from an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the 500 block of 11th Street S in Grand Junction. At 2:09 pm the sheriff’s office was advised of the theft of a battery charger and chainsaws from the 1400 block of 252nd St in Grant Township. At 2:46 pm a deputy was dispatched to the intersection of Highway 30 and County Road E-33 (Eaton Ave) north of Scranton for a two vehicle accident. Clayton Marcus Ketchum, 40, of Dubuque was stopped at the stop sign at E-33. He attempted to back his semi tractor-trailer rig to make room for a vehicle turning left off Highway 30, but he backed into a 2006 Chrysler van behind him. The van was driven by Wendi Dee Smits, 52, of Jefferson. There were no injuries reported but Smits’ vehicle sustained an estimated $2,500 in damages. Little damage was done to the semi-trailer. Ketchum was cited for unsafe backing on a highway. At 4:47 pm a deputy was asked to meet a Carroll County deputy at the Carroll-Greene County line to take custody of Robby Joseph Anthofer, 48, of Coon Rapids on an outstanding Greene County warrant for trespassing*. At 6:12 pm a deputy began investigating the theft of a boat and trailer from the boat ramp area on the Raccoon River at Squirrel Hollow Park. The 14-foot boat is white with yellow and purple graphics. The boat has a Nebraska registration. At 8:20 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of 1st St in Rippey to investigate criminal mischief and vandalism to a mailbox.
Monday, July 11: At 12:45 am a deputy assisted a jail officer with transporting an inmate to the Greene County Medical Center emergency room for medical assistance and medication. At 12:40 pm a deputy and the Jefferson fire department responded to a ditch fire at the intersection of Highway 4 and County Road E-63 (330th St) in Franklin Township. At 2:29 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Paton Presbyterian Church to investigate criminal mischief and vandalism to the carpet and other contents within the church. The deputy did determine the juveniles that were involved with the vandalism. At 3:04 pm the sheriff’s office and Churdan fire and rescue were dispatched to the 100 block of Highway 4 (I Ave) for a single vehicle rollover accident. Jenny Lynne Harrison, 31, of Jefferson was southbound on Highway 4 when she lost control of her 2007 Ford 500. The car entered the west ditch, coming to rest on its top in a farm field. Harrison was transported to Greene County Medical Center by Churdan rescue for further evaluation of what was believed to be minor injuries. Harrison reported that at the time of the accident she was not wearing her seat belt. The side air bags did deploy and the vehicle was estimated to be a total loss. At 5:56 pm a deputy assisted a Department of Natural Resources conservation officer with towing a vehicle from McMahon Access in Jackson Township after the DNR officer issued several citations to Trinity Glen Welch 27, of Jefferson for driving while barred and providing false information. At 9:02 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of 12th Street S in Grand Junction for a reported domestic altercation. After an investigation the deputy subsequently arrested Christin Charles Smith, 32, of Grand Junction for domestic abuse assault- second offense*. At 10:30 pm a deputy was advised of a tree blocking the roadway on County Road E-57 (290th St) just west of Rippey gymnasium. The Rippey mayor removed the tree from the roadway.
Sunday, July 10: At 10:18 am, a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of North St in Churdan for a reported burglary and theft of a purse and its contents from a parked vehicle. At 12:31 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of Jay St in Churdan to investigate the burglary and theft of stereo equipment from an unlocked pickup truck.
Saturday, July 9: At 1:53 am a deputy was dispatched for a motorcycle that was reportedly parked along the road in the 300 block of County Road E-39 (210th St) in Kendrick Township with the driver lying in the ditch. Upon the deputy’s arrival he determined that the motorcycle had broken down and the driver was waiting for help. At 4:13 am the chief deputy sheriff and K-9 Leo assisted the Perry PD with the search of a vehicle on Highway 141 and 1st St in Perry. At 6:38 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a reported stolen vehicle call in the 300 block of W Reed St in Jefferson. At 8:57 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of 230th St in Jackson Township to investigate property damage to a fence and a corn field.
Friday, July 8: At 7:18 pm a deputy was dispatched to Rippey to try and locate a reported suspicious vehicle. The described silver vehicle was not in Rippey upon the deputy’s arrival. At 10:56 pm a deputy was dispatched to Grand Junction for a reported suspicious white car with several male subjects in the vehicle. The deputy advised the caller that he had been in town for some time and did not see the described car.
Thursday, July 7: At 1:20 am a deputy, Churdan fire and Alliant Energy all responded to the 600 block of School St in Churdan for a tree that had fallen on a power line and had knocked it to the ground. At 12:24 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of Eagle St in Scranton to investigate a reported burglary and theft of meat from a freezer, and then to investigate the theft of money from a parked vehicle.
Wednesday, July 6: At 12:37 am a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of North 17th St in Grand Junction for a tree that was blown down in the thunderstorm and was partially blocking the roadway. At 12:52 am a deputy, Churdan fire, Greene County secondary roads and Midland Power Cooperative all responded to a power line that was knocked down by a falling tree on County Road N-65 (D Ave) between 140th and 150th St in Cedar Township. The tree was reported on fire from the contact of the electrical lines. At 2:23 am a deputy and Greene County secondary roads personnel responded to a tree that was blocking N-65 just north of 125th St in Cedar Township. The secondary roads crew cleared the tree from the roadway.
Tuesday, July 5: At 8:25 am a deputy was dispatched to the 1300 block of County Road E-26 (170th St) in Hardin Township to investigate a reported burglary to a building site.
Monday, July 4: At 12:24 am a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of 110th St in Highland Township for a reported domestic assault. After an investigation by the deputy Jason Scott Clark, 35, of Fort Dodge was arrested and taken into custody for domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness (serious misdemeanor)*. The Greene County deputy was assisted by two deputies from Calhoun County and a Lake City police officer. At 2:02 pm Union Pacific railroad dispatchers asked a deputy to check for several persons trespassing on railroad property near the Jordan Ave crossing west of Jefferson. The deputy located the two and advised that they were trespassing on private property. At 3:37 pm a deputy spoke with a resident in the 900 block of 110th St about criminal mischief to a laptop computer.
Sunday, July 3: At 1:16 am a deputy was asked by the Perry police department to locate and arrest a male subject in the 600 block of School St in Churdan that was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants from Dallas and Guthrie Counties. Robert Smith Jr was taken into custody without incident. At 3:33 pm a deputy was dispatched for a car-deer accident that occurred near the intersection of County Road E-39 and Eaton Ave north of Scranton. Jeremiah Edward Geisler, 18, of Jefferson struck a deer as he was southbound on Eaton Ave. Geisler was not injured but his 1999 Toyota Camry LE sustained an estimated $4,500 in damages.
Saturday, July 2: At 3:06 am a deputy assisted the Gowrie police department with transporting several adult male subjects from the Webster County line to Jefferson. At 6:43 am a deputy was advised of a pig running at large along the roadway in the 400 block of County Road N-65 (D Ave) in Cedar Township. The swine was not located at the time of the deputy’s arrival. At 9:41 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction for a reported fight in progress. The deputy helped mediated the disagreement at that time with the possibility of charges being filed in the future.
Friday, July 1: At 11:14 am a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of Jefferson St in Scranton to investigate what was reported to be shots fired from a small caliber rifle. The incident is under investigation at this time. At 5:16 pm, a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department after they initiated a traffic stop in the Shopko Home Town Store parking lot and arrested the adult male driver. At 7:22 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the Scranton city park to investigate the report of someone hearing either gun shots or fireworks near the Union Pacific tracks. At 9:55 pm a deputy and an Iowa State trooper were advised of a southbound erratic driver traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 4 north of Jefferson. The described vehicle was not located.
